Our Purpose

To shape the future of health through facilitating and promoting collaboration in health-related education, research and innovation.

Te Papa Hauora partner institutes play a crucial role in advancing health-related education, research, and innovation in Canterbury. Te Papa Hauora brings together, leads and connects its partners with the health research, education and innovation ecosystem, iwi/hapū, and the wider community.

 

Our Strategic Priorities 

Four strategic priority areas focus and guide our activities, contributing to positive community health and wellbeing outcomes.

Advocacy and Leadership

  • Raise the profile and promote the unique features of Te Papa Hauora.
  • Demonstrate leadership in the health, education, research and technology environment.
  • Promote collaboration and coordinated actions to achieve health equity.
  • Promote public support of the health sector and positive career opportunities in healthcare.
  • Explore links with like-collaborators, nationally and internationally.
  • Build on existing constructs to promote and advocate new and relevant models of professional training and education.
  • Encourage and contribute to training and skill development that accelerate health-workforce ready outcomes.
  • Encourage and support complimentary inter-professional teaching and learning.
  • Lead and support collaborative learning and development initiatives.
  • Promote the benefits and positive opportunities of working in health.

Health Education

  • Contribute and create value to the New Zealand Health Research Strategy.
  • Encourage and support collaborative health research projects between TPH Partners, leveraging each institutes’ expertise.
  • Explore and support new collaborations in health-related research, encouraging the science, academic and health sectors to work together and with communities.
  • Develop complimentary relationships with key stakeholders in health research to identify areas of priority and opportunity.
  • Contribute to solutions to the wider issues of community wellbeing, social and environmental factors that improve health equity.

Health Research

  • Explore, lead and promote digital health initiatives, the use of technologies and data to support an equitable health system.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with participants in the medical and health technologies sector.
  • Support collaboration in health-related research and development and commercialisation of existing, new and emerging technologies.
  • Explore and promote the use of simulation in healthcare education and training.
  • Encourage the development of a digitally capable and enabled workforce that embraces the use of technology.
  • Investigate the broader environmental and social inputs to health and their impact on equity in health.

We draw together people, resources and programmes to provide innovative outcomes for education, workforce development, healthcare and health research.

Health Research

Te Papa Hauora supports research collaboration within Canterbury. Bringing together established research institutes, organisations, and communities to advance equitable, innovative, world-leading research. We foster research excellence across disciplines to strengthen impact across clinical, medical, sociological, and educational domains.

Health Innovation

Te Papa Hauora connects with industry, communities and the wider health, education and research environment to promote innovation in health. The Precinct enables and enhances collaboration, co-location and innovation to co-design novel solutions to unmet clinical needs, contributing to Canterbury’s ecosystem of innovation.

Health Education

Te Papa Hauora facilitates inter-professional events at Manawa in the Precinct. Our programmes and challenges enable students and health professionals from many discplilines and partner institutes to come together to address real world problems.

Our public events

Our public events are a unique opportunity for members of the community to hear from, and meet health experts and leading researchers within Canterbury. These events are designed to share up-to-date information on relevant health topics with the public.

Governance

Te Papa Hauora is a strategic partnership between Canterbury’s major tertiary education and health institutions. Te Papa Hauora is governed by an Advisory Council, with representatives from each of the founding partners and mana whenua Ngāi Tūāhuriri.

Our small but mighty team on the ground is responsible for making things happen.
