Te Papa Hauora is a strategic partnership between Canterbury’s major tertiary education and health institutions, working together with representation from Ngāi Tūāhuriri. These institutional anchors recognise that collectivising their interests in the Canterbury health system creates a range of opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Each partner brings unique expertise and resources, fostering a vibrant ecosystem dedicated to improving health outcomes.

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury

Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury is responsible for planning, organising and providing a wide range of hospital and community health services to the region, as well as supporting teaching, professional development and research activities.

University of Otago

The University of Otago Christchurch campus is New Zealand's most research-intensive campus for medical and health sciences with over 300 medical and 700 postgraduate students across many health-related disciplines. Research teams focus on clinical, biomedical and public health issues relevant to New Zealand. Wai-Ora, the University's impressive new facility is soon to open in the heart of Te Papa Hauora and will provide state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.

University of Canterbury

The University of Canterbury offers a wide range of highly regarded courses, qualifications and research opportunities in a range of health disciplines. These include professional education in audiology, clinical psychology, nursing, medical physics, social work, speech and language pathology, and Health Sciences. Health research and innovation extends across the University to areas such as engineering, health technologies, population health, health economics, leadership and management.

Ara Institute of Canterbury

Ara Institute of Canterbury is the largest South Island provider of education for nursing, midwifery, medical imaging, social work and other health and science options, offering qualifications ranging from certificates to master’s degrees.

Mana Whenua

Ngāi Tūāhuriri

All founding partners have relationships with mana whenua.

Ngāi Tūāhuriri have the status as mana whenua for circa. 700 000 people in their takiwā. They are interested in how equity and excellence contribute to positive outcomes, and who they partner with to achieve this with health as one of their pou (focus) areas.

Ngāi Tūāhuririri is a key participant on the Advisory Council to foster stronger relationships with mana whenua, influence current treaty practices and embed cultural competency.
