In our Partner’s words – Ara Institute of Canterbury

Founding partner, Ara Institute of Canterbury

"Te Papa Hauora, our Health Precinct, brings together clinical practice, research and innovation in one dynamic, exciting place. This gives our students a powerful advantage as they prepare for and launch their healthcare careers."

Darren Mitchell, Chief Executive, Ara Institute of Canterbury.

Key partnership

Offering qualifications from certificates through to bachelor’s degrees, Ara Institute of Canterbury is New Zealand’s largest provider of nursing, midwifery, medical imaging and social work education.

Ara’s nursing, midwifery and medical imaging students are based at Manawa, the Health Precinct’s flagship purpose-built facility, located next to Christchurch Hospital. The shared campus enables students to integrate classroom learning with real-world clinical experience, using high-tech simulation environments and modern facilities while learning alongside established health professionals and potential employers.

Manawa is jointly occupied by Ara Institute of Canterbury, Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury and the University of Canterbury. This co-location creates opportunities for staff and students to collaborate, innovate and learn alongside professionals across education, research and clinical practice.

Ara’s participation in Te Papa Hauora strengthens existing health sector relationships and supports the continued development of nursing and allied health programmes. By incorporating healthcare innovations into teaching and learning, Ara ensures graduates are work-ready and prepared to serve the health needs of Canterbury and beyond.
