Key partnership

The University of Otago Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka, Division of Health Sciences, Christchurch – where research and education are shaping health.

Our campus in the heart of Christchurch provides undergraduate and postgraduate education and training in health workforce professions and biomedical sciences, and also leads a range of innovative research in medical, public health and biomedical sciences.

The University is constructing a new state-of-the-art building to expand its Christchurch campus, due to be completed in late-2026. The new building, gifted the name Wai-Ora, will enable the growth of its world-class health science research and education programmes, and it will provide new opportunities for collaboration with key partners in Te Papa Hauora Health Precinct.

In partnering with Te Papa Hauora, the University:

Enhances and strengthens its activities and contributions in education and training in health workforce professions and biomedical sciences, research and community service.
Supports and fosters strong and productive collaborative relationships across tertiary institutions and health provider organisations in Canterbury.
Makes a positive contribution to re-building the central area of Christchurch city, adding to the vibrancy and ethos of Te Papa Hauora Health Precinct for the benefit of the wider Canterbury population.
