The team at Waitaha Manawa Simulation Centre are looking for volunteers who may want to participate in some Clinical Simulation exercises. Read below to learn more:
What is ‘clinical simulation’
Clinical Simulation is where we re-enact a medical situation that will help healthcare staff learn and feel confident in treating real patients in the real hospital setting. With this happening in a safe education environment, we allow them to go slower and can stop and discuss every stage of the process without risking the safety of real patients.
Who?
We are looking for people who would be interested in acting as a patient in these clinical simulations. These roles will help the learners to interact with real people, appreciating the patient’s point of view, and help improve their communication skills, respect, and patient collaboration. If you have experienced a healthcare experience yourself, it is an advantage but not essential.
Why?
Previously we have used Manikins (life-like dolls/robots) that can all allow us to perform medical procedures. The downside is that they do not act very ‘human” and so some important areas, such as reading facial expressions, seeing someone is in pain, angry, or upset, cannot be replicated. These areas of learning are just as important as performing the procedure.
