Living well & ageing well – Rangiora 2025

A beautiful sunny day in Rangiora welcomed three incredible speakers to MainPower stadium on the 10th of September. Co-hosted with the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation, these seminars are a great way of sharing the proud Cantabrian research community with the wider community.

A/Prof Anna Pilbrow shared insight on heart disease, the incredible research occurring at a rapid pace to understand how genetics play their part, and the research showing evidence that we can modify our genes to strive for a healthier lifestyle.

A/Prof Katie Douglas spoke about the altering affects mood and rumination have on our cognitive processes, and vice versa. Can cognitive exercises break the cycle of ruminating thoughts to bring you happier days? Katie’s research is asking this exact question.

A/Prof Margaret Currie discussed ever growing evidence based research around exercise and its significance during the journey of a patient with cancer. Could Christchurch could be the central place in Aotearoa offering personalised exercise support for patients during their cancer journey?

The speakers left the audience with a summary of their key messages, below is a video of just those:
