George Abbott Symposium 2025

Late August 2025 welcomed clinical researchers from around the motu and beyond for the annual George Abbott Symposium. This year’s focus was Acute Paediatrics: Care for children in need.

Invited speakers included Professor Stuart Dalziel (Professor of Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine at University of Auckland, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Physician, Children’s Emergency Department at Starship Children’s Hospital, Cure Kids Chair of Child Health Research) and A/Prof Mike Starr (General Paediatrician, Clinical Associate Professor at Melbourne University, National Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Development Group Chair in Australia).

Topics this year included ‘Paracetemol v Ibuprofen in young infants’ , ‘Socio-geographic risk factors for children attending the ER at Christchurch Hospital’, ‘From Flare to Control: A Clinician’s Guide to Childhood Eczema’ & a ‘State of Child Health Report update from Cure Kids’ and many more.

Research highlights and case presentations were shared and discussed at length by local researchers and practioners. Posters were displayed and the Symposium offered great networking and further collaboration opportunities for those who attended.
