Newsletter Autumn 2026

Te Papa Hauora Health Precinct draws together people, resources and programmes in health research, health education, and innovation in health, with the ultimate goal of improving community wellbeing.

Below are some of our highlights and upcoming events, but please visit our website to learn more about what we’re up to and what’s happening at the Health Precinct!

We have had a record number of applications to our first Future Leaders Programme for 2026. Each year we offer this highly acclaimed leadership programme to final year health students in Canterbury. The programme involves technical aspects of leadership, input from health leaders, plus presentations from futurists and business leaders.

Students are encouraged to question how best to adopt leadership roles, challenge the status quo and to recognise that leadership is vital at all levels and all parts of our health system. Past students have described the programme as a ‘game changer’ with respect to how they view themselves as potential leaders within health.

Te Papa Hauora is proud to support the Research for Children Aotearoa (RfCA), a collaborative which brings together established research institutes, organisations, and communities to advance equitable, innovative, world-leading research for children. One way they have been doing this is through their free public seminars, national conferences and participating in local research.

Te Papa Hauora together with the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation bring you another event in our series of free community research talks.

Join us in Lincoln and meet two incredible researchers talking about their research which is relevant to us all, yet not often talked about – the risk of heart failure and the end of life.

Come along and learn more about the relationship between our gut and our heart, and some of the myths around dying and palliative care.

Our popular annual free public talks are back. Mark your calendar for 6 May 5pm at Manawa. Keep an eye on our website to register.

Research for Children Aotearoa is hosting an evening of talks focused on Child Immunisation research 28 April at 5pm in the Manawa building. Keep an eye on our website to register.

The team at Waitaha Manawa Simulation Centre are looking for volunteers who may be interested in partipating in Clinical Simulation exercises. They are seeking members of the public, students and healthcare workers. Read below to learn more.
